BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – Veterans around the country joined in solidarity today to honor those who fought in the military, and are prisoners of war or missing in action.

Today is National P.O.W. M.I.A. Recognition Day. The American Legion Post 1645 in Binghamton, held its annual remembrance ceremony this morning. Legion members read tributes for former POW-MIA's and told their stories.

The legion setup an empty table, to symbolize those who never returned home. On the table was a vase, holding a single red rose to symbolize the families and loved one's of those we've lost.

"And therefore, on this National POW-MIA Recognition Day, all Americans are asked to pause, and reflect on the sacrifices made by those veterans, and very importantly, the service members who are still unaccounted for, as a result of their military action on behalf of our country," Post 1645 Chaplain, Jon Yeager said.

Members of the legion presented a wreath, and tied a red ribbon to the flagpole. The color guard displayed the colors throughout the ceremony, and those in attendance sang the Star Spangled Banner, God Bless America, and Proud to Be an American.
