‘Power Her Forward’ conference in Rochester uplifts young girls, teaches empowerment
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – Girls were invited to gather at East High School on Saturday for the "Power Her Forward" conference, which is led by the Women's Foundation of Genesee Valley .
The free, full-day event brought girls ages 13 to 19 from around the Rochester region together to learn how to broaden their creativity and feel empowered. The day kicked off with speeches, then the girls branched off to take part in workshops covering a variety of topics like mental health, finances and artistic expression.
Organizers said the goal is to help girls feel in control and well-equipped to handle anything life throws at them.
"What we hope is that they leave inspired with a better sense of themselves as to who they are today and where they are going," said Krystle Ellis, the executive director of the women's foundation. "We have gathered the best of the best and the premiere leaders and volunteers and the community partners in the Rochester area. So, I know for a fact they will leave elevated and ready to take on the world."
News 8's Mikhaela Singleton was one of Saturday's speakers for the event, helping to launch the day's activities.
