Predicting Potential Shock Returns at WWE Money in the Bank 2024

Credit: WWE.com Money in the Bank never fails to be one of WWE's most exciting annual events and the 2024 installment emanating live from Toronto, Canada on July 6 looks to be no exception.

The two Ladder matches—where guaranteed future world title shots will be for grabs—are brimming with promising talent ready to break through to the next level. The World Heavyweight Championship clash between Seth Rollins and reigning champ Damian Priest also has the potential to be an exhilarating matchup with the many different directions it can go in.

With the Money in the Bank pay-per-view historically having been a night known for its surprises dating back to its inaugural installment in 2010, fans should expect several twists and turns come Saturday—specifically a return or two.

SummerSlam is fast approaching and thus the card should become more clear coming out of Money in the Bank. That could include a few familiar faces resurfacing at the show in order to kickstart whatever storyline they'll be involved in at the August extravaganza.

It has been well documented within the realm of WWE this year that anything is possible, making these the biggest shock returns that could realistically go down at Money in the Bank.

Following the electric conclusion to the June 28 edition of SmackDown, many fans have speculated that the return of Roman Reigns could be coming sooner rather than later.

Paul Heyman's exile from The Bloodline had been building for months. The tension finally came to a head when Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa laid him out in brutal fashion and sent the message that it was indeed a new era within The Bloodline.

Surely, The Wiseman being obliterated won't sit well with Roman Reigns.

That's in addition to everything else Sikoa has been up to in Reigns' absence, including claiming to be the new Tribal Chief. Sikoa may have told Heyman that Reigns will never be back, but The Head of the Table's return is certainly imminent.

The only indicator that it won't be at Money in the Bank is the Wrestling Observer Newsletter report that Sikoa is slated to challenge Cody Rhodes for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam. Reigns' return would likely be saved for the end of SummerSlam in that case, but an appearance at Money in the Bank isn't completely out of the question.

Liv Morgan's "revenge tour" has taken complete control of Monday Night Raw in the month since Rhea Ripley was forced to relinquish her Women's World Championship following a dominant one-year reign.

Morgan promised to take everything away from her arch-rival who cost her six months of her career and so far she has done just that. Not only has the Women's World title been in her possession for the past two months, she's managed to get in the good graces of Ripley's own faction The Judgment Day as well.

The many interactions Morgan has had with Dominik Mysterio in particular are guaranteed to be leading to an angry Ripley returning for retribution. That would perfectly set the stage for a match between the two at SummerSlam.

The only recent update on Ripley's recovery came from Fightful Select on June 24 reporting that the company hoped to have her back by the event. She could be ahead of schedule, but it's also possible she won't be cleared until a little later in the summer.

Morgan isn't scheduled to compete at Money in the Bank, but Ripley could easily thwart her interference in the World Heavyweight Championship match.

If a Roman Reigns' return isn't in the cards quite yet, then Jimmy Uso would be a perfectly fine consolation prize in relation to the Bloodline storyline.

Uso was last seen on the SmackDown immediately following WrestleMania 40 getting booted from The Bloodline by Solo Sikoa and Tama Tonga. Sikoa has done an excellent job of building The Bloodline back up with new members and Uso will make enemies out of all of them when he comes back.

The Bloodline will battle Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton and Kevin Owens in six-man tag team action at Money in the Bank. If Uso wants to even the odds, he'll resurface in the corner of the babyface trio or come to their aid afterward.

Jimmy interfering in the men's Money in the Bank Ladder match and helping Jey capture the contract is another possibility, albeit an unlikely one. Jey doesn't necessarily need the backup (unless he becomes a target of The Wyatt Sicks), but it could be Jimmy's way of redeeming himself to Jey for costing him the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at SummerSlam 2023.

An Usos reunion might be the next step toward booking a Bloodline civil war.

CM Punk is currently out of commission after being viciously attacked by Drew McIntyre on the June 21 edition of SmackDown in his hometown of Chicago. However, nothing is stopping AJ Lee from seeking revenge on her husband's behalf.

Lee hasn't appeared on WWE TV in nearly a decade, but Punk's program with McIntyre has gotten personal enough that it could be what finally gets her back in the fold, if only for a one-off.

McIntyre has boasted about stealing Punk's bracelet during the attack and has since worn it on Raw. Lee's name being on the bracelet shouldn't be considered a coincidence.

The Scottish Warrior has a strong chance of winning the men's Money in the Bank Ladder match, and if he succeeds, he's already announced his intentions of cashing in that same night.

Punk spoiling his cash-in during or after the World Heavyweight Championship would be too predictable, but the three-time Divas champion showing up to distract McIntyre long enough to cost him the title would be a memorable moment and effectively add to the bad blood brewing between McIntyre and Punk ahead of SummerSlam.
