Prep glance: Lincoln Southwest softball wins Monarch Invitational, improves to 19-3
The Class A No. 2 Lincoln Southwest softball team defeated No. 3 Millard North 4-3 to win the Monarch Invitational hosted by Papillion-La Vista on Saturday.
The Silver Hawks went 4-0 in the two-day tournament that brings several of the top teams in Class A together.
Southwest started the day Saturday by knocking off the host No. 4 Monarchs, 4-3. Emma Dostal and Hadley Madson both homered for the Hawks, and Vivian Mares supplied a walk-off hit.
Then Southwest won another one-run contest later for the tourney title. Dostal homered again in that game as the Silver Hawks improved to 19-3 on the season.
Papillion's tournament was one of several happening across the state this weekend.
Other notable tournament results include Hastings knocking off Beatrice to win its home invite; DC West won in Louisville; and Grand Island Northwest won its home invite.
Seward Invitational: Lincoln Lutheran went 4-0 on Saturday to win the Bluejays' tournament.
Lily Wohlgemuth had 10 kills to lead the Warriors past Seward in the championship match, 25-16, 25-20.
The Warriors went 3-0 in pool play, defeating Omaha Concordia 25-19, 25-20, Wahoo 25-23, 28-26, and then Broken Bow 25-7, 25-16.
