NEW YORK CITY — Pack your patience, and an umbrella: Rain and wind are in store for Thanksgiving travelers in New York City on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to forecasters.

The National Weather Service and AccuWeather are predicting a pre-Thanksgiving storm will arrive in NYC just in time for travelers to get on the road, or head to the airport to catch a flight.

The greatest negative travel impacts associated with the storm will be from Tuesday to Tuesday night in the Northeast, with some weather-related travel issues lingering into Wednesday, AccuWeather meteorologists said.

"The stiff east-to-southeast winds averaging 25-35 mph with gusts of 40-45 mph can pose a problem at some of the airports from Washington, D.C., to Philadelphia and New York City with the worst conditions likely from late Tuesday afternoon to Tuesday evening," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Tom Kines said.

Airline delays are most likely during this time due to winds, drenching rain and poor visibility, according to AccuWeather . Those heading to the airport should double check their flights as delays or cancellations could be possible.

Rain will begin developing Tuesday afternoon and into the evening, according to the National Weather Service. By about 7 p.m. Tuesday, rain will have spread over the area from west to east and there will be wind gusts between 20 and 30 miles per hour, the NWS predicted.

Moderate to heavy rainfall is possible after midnight, with lows in the upper 30s to mid 40s and between 1 and 2 inches of precipitation possible.

As Wednesday morning progresses, expect continued rain with wind gusts between 25 and 40 miles per hour and stronger near the coast, NWS forecasters added.

The rain will begin to taper off by Wednesday afternoon, though forecasters said there will still be gusty winds to contend with. The afternoon should be dry, forecasters added. High temperatures Wednesday will range from 51 to 57 degrees.

On Thanksgiving, high temperatures will be near the average, with dry and breezy weather. Some showers could return Friday, forecasters said.
