Prince Harry to meet girl who cares for brother A 12-year-old girl who helps her mother care for her brother will get to meet Prince Harry when she is given a special award.

Anya was nominated by her mother Gemma in the Inspirational Sibling category of the WellChild Awards.

Gemma said her daughter "does so much" to help her 15-year-old brother Edward, who was born with a chromosomal disorder and developmental delay.

Anya, from Matlock in Derbyshire, will receive the award in London on 30 September.

'Always steps in' "Anya is a really amazing girl," said her mother.

"She not only cares for her brother but she helps me stay sane and has helped keep Edward safe for years."

Edward has little understanding of danger and is also severely short-sighted, so he needs constant supervision.

"He's basically like a 15-year-old toddler," said Gemma.

"Any time that I need help, she has to help out with him basically.

"So simple things like making lunch or basic chores and things, he needs occupying while I'm doing that, so if anyone isn't available to help me Anya always steps in."

Anya said she felt "excited and happy and nervous" to be recognised.

When asked what she was most looking forward to, she said: "The award and missing school and getting dressed up."

It is the second time Gemma has nominated Anya for the award.

"I nominated Anya because she does so much and she doesn't realise how much she does," added Gemma.

"A lot of siblings have lived this way and have done this all their lives and they don't realise how special they are."

'Incredible young people' WellChild is a national charity for seriously ill children and their families.

Patron Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, said: "I am once again honoured to attend this year's WellChild Awards celebrating the remarkable courage and achievements of children living with complex medical needs.

"These incredible young people, along with the dedicated caregivers, nurses, and professionals who tirelessly support them, inspire us all.

"It is a true privilege to recognise such extraordinary individuals."
