SANTA ROSA COUNTY, Fla. ( WKRG ) — Friday's ribbon cutting in Santa Rosa County marks the fifth location across Northwest Florida where Global Connections to Employment has started what's known as Project SEARCH, an internship program for young adults with disabilities.

In just a few weeks, five young men will begin their 10-week internship at Santa Rosa Medical Center.

The internship program features a variety of opportunities for these young adults to pursue a full-time job once the program concludes.

As GCE Senior Directory of Transitions Lisa Bloodworth puts it, the interns are monitored throughout the 10 weeks to see where they are most skilled.

"It could be in laundry; it could be housekeeping; it could be in the ER stocking," Bloodworth said. "It could be in warehouse; it could be a patient care technician, various things. It just depends."

One of the five interns, Xavier Viveros, is excited to broaden his skillset during the internship.

"I'm looking forward to trying all the other options here at Project SEARCH," Viveros said.

After the ribbon cutting, interns showed their families the work floor where they will spend the majority of their time during the internship.

There was already buzz amongst parents and families who are excited to return in May to watch these five young men graduate.
