Pro-Palestine event held in Gainesville

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - As people across North-Central Florida are celebrating America's Independence Day, some pro-Palestine protestors rallied in downtown Gainesville demanding a ceasefire in Gaza.

Members of the University of Florida Divestment Coalition held a forum meeting at the Bo Diddley Plaza that was open to the public.

Organizers decided to hold the event on America's birthday because they say the United States is taking part in restricting other countries' freedoms.

"This is obviously something that we must fight together because collective liberation allows our own individual liberations," says Jazmin Cooley, a protester participating in the event.

After the meeting, organizers screened the film "The Night Won't End - Biden's war in Gaza", a documentary film from Al Jazeera about what they say is America's role in the war in Gaza.
