Pueblo teachers may not get raises after ballot issue expected to fail

PUEBLO, Colo. (KKTV) - Teachers in Pueblo County District 70 may not be getting a raise since Ballot Issue 4A or the Mill Levy Override is expected to fail.

This ballot issue would have granted D70 additional funding they were going to put towards fixing infrastructure issues and making teachers' pay more competitive.

As of right now, teachers in D70 make an average of $42,500 a year compared to teachers in neighboring districts who make an average of $68,250.

The money from this mill levy was also going to go towards major infrastructure repairs in D70, like the septic and sewer system at Pueblo County High School as well as a new roof for the school.

In a statement from a District 70 spokesperson, they tell us, "While we are disappointed in this, we respect the decision of our voters regarding the mill levy override."

District 70 continues saying, "Pueblo County School District 70 remains committed to providing safe learning environments and quality education for all students. However, without this additional funding, we face significant challenges in addressing our aging infrastructure and other critical needs. We will continue to prioritize student safety and educational excellence. We are grateful for the ongoing support of our staff, families and community partners as we navigate these financial challenges and work towards solutions that best serve our students and schools."
