ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported the news of the injury.

Thompson will not return to the game due to a chest injury. He leaves the game completing 13 of 19 passes for 107 yards with zero touchdowns and zero interceptions.

Thompson suffered the injury and exited the game after a Seahawks defender hit him on a throw. Boyle now enters for Thompson, which makes it the Dolphins' third quarterback to start this season.

The Dolphins are down by two possessions as the fourth quarter winds down, 17-3. Even with Thompson on the field, the Dolphins' offense has struggled.

The Dolphins have only tallied 168 total yards.

Boyle is now the Dolphins' signal-caller after he was promoted from the practice squad and signed to the 53-man roster. He and former Pro Bowl quarterback Tyler Huntley are the only quarterbacks on the active roster.

It hasn't been an ideal start to the season for Miami. The Dolphins are without their Pro Bowl quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa, who was placed on injured reserve earlier in the week after he sustained a concussion against the Buffalo Bills in Week 2.

Boyle, 29, has played for numerous NFL teams in his career, including the Green Bay Packers, Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears, New York Jets, Houston Texans, and now the Dolphins.

The former Eastern Kentucky quarterback went undrafted in the 2018 NFL Draft. Boyle signed with the Packers as an undrafted free agent and made the 53-man roster as the team's third-string quarterback behind Aaron Rodgers and DeShone Kizer.

After three years in Green Bay, he signed a one-year deal with Detriot as a free agent. The following year, he resigned from the Lions but was ultimately released prior to the season and re-signed to the practice squad.

After that, Boyle signed with the Bears towards the end of the 2022 season. The following season, Boyle signed with the Jets, but he was leased in late Aug. 2023 and re-signed with their practice squad.

Later in the 2023 season, Boyle signed with the Texans practice squad and was ultimately released in Aug. 2024 after he signed a reserve/future contract in Jan. 2024.

It's unclear how long Boyle will be under center for the Dolphins, but he'll make the most of his opportunity.
