Queen Maxima of the Netherlands was all smiles today as she presided over a ballet event despite wet weather.

The Argentina-born monarch, 53, was ever chic as she attended the launch of the National Ballet Academy in Amsterdam where she was greeted by young fans and ballerinas.

Despite torrential downpour threatening to get the best of the day, the effervescent royal turned up in a stylish dark grey cape and matching suede hat while an assistant shielded her with an umbrella.
