Lock Haven, Pa. — A 5K walk/run is being held next month to honor a victim of violent crime and raise funds for a scholarship in his name.

The "Ron Dailey Keystone Central School District Scholarship Fund" and "Roads to Peace" will host the Race Against Violence, an Olympics-themed 5K walk/run, to raise both awareness and funds.

Race day is Oct. 19 at Riverview Park, Lock Haven, beginning at 10 a.m. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. There is also a virtual option for people who cannot attend the actual race. Early bird registrations are $25 per participant and will remain open until Oct. 18 at 3 p.m. Same-day registration is $30.

Remote participants have a $25 registration fee. Participants using the virtual option must submit their registration by Oct. 18 at 11:59 p.m.

The "Champions of Change" theme uses Olympics imagery to raise awareness about five different types of violence: gun, domestic, child, violence against those with mental health issues/intellectual disabilities, and sexual violence.

This event is family friendly and dog friendly. Runners and walkers alike are welcome and encouraged to participate.

The Ron Dailey Keystone Central School District Scholarship was created in honor of Ron Dailey, a firefighter who was shot and killed near his workplace in January. It supports students graduating from Keystone Central School District who are aspiring to become firefighters.

Roads To Peace advocates for and assists survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault by providing emergency shelter, medical advocacy programs, legal advocacy, and more.
