Rachel Chang
Travel and pop culture journalist Rachel Chang started her editorial career as a magazine editor (Us Weekly senior editor, J-14 editor in chief, CosmoGIRL! entertainment editor) and is now flourishing in her dream job as a freelance writer and editor. She's currently a regular contributor to Condé Nast Traveler and Travel + Leisure and also writes for Lonely Planet, AFAR, the Wall Street Journal, and BBC, among others.
With more than two decades of editorial experience, travel and pop culture journalist Rachel Chang is a former magazine editor (Us Weekly senior editor, J-14 editor in chief, CosmoGIRL! entertainment editor) turned freelance writer and editor. She's a regular contributor to Condé Nast Traveler and Travel + Leisure, and has edited projects for Tripadvisor and Time, and written for Lonely Planet, BBC, New York Times for Kids, Wall Street Journal's Buy Side, Washington Post, and Hemispheres, among others. Originally from the California Bay Area, Rachel now lives in New York City (well, Hoboken, New Jersey) and is a solo travel advocate, dumpling and stinky tofu addict, and reluctant runner, who managed to cross four marathon finish lines. She's especially passionate about covering untold Asian American stories, experiential travel, and celebrity travel.
After graduating from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in Communication Studies and specialization in Business Administration, Rachel earned her master's degree at Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications in magazine, newspaper, and online journalism. She's enhanced her education with writing courses through Yale Writers' Workshop, UCLA Extension, Media Bistro, Gotham Writers Workshop, and the Highlights Foundation. Rachel was also a founding executive board member of the Newhouse's alumni group Newhouse 44. She's now a professor for Syracuse University's Summer College program with Newhouse NYC, and also serves as Newhouse's contest and awards consultant for the journalism industry's prestigious honors, the Mirror Awards and Toner Prizes.
