Raiders-Panthers: A reminder of what Raiders have in Daniel Carlson

Remember, Eddy Pineiro?

He was supposed to be what Daniel Carlson has become for the Las Vegas Raiders.

As they Raiders tried to find a long-term answer at kicker, in the offseason they moved away from long-term kicker Sebastian Janikowski, the Raiders gave Pineiro to win the game.

They signed him out as an undrafted free agent, but he was put on the injured reserve just before the start of the season and the Florida product never played or the Silver and Black.

Pineiro kicked for the Chicago Bears in 2019 and for the New York Jets in 2021. Yet, he found a home with the Carolina Panthers. In his third season in Carolina, has made a 60 of 66 field-goal attempts since 2022.

Pineiro, of course, will face the Raiders at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday. Carlson, of course, is his counterpart. Carlson, of course, joined the Raiders weeks after Pineiro was injured in 2018. Carlson has been a special find for the Raiders.

He was a fifth-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings in 2018, but was cut early in the season after a bad outing. The Raiders signed him in October because they were struggling to find a solid answer at the kicking position in Jon Gruden's first season back with the team.

Carlson has been one of the best kickers in the league since donning the Silver and Black. Carlson was a big reason why the Raiders upset the Baltimore Ravens last week as he had two 50-plus yard field goals and a game winner in the final minute.

So, as Pineiro comes to Las Vegas, this is a great time to remember how everything worked out just fine for the Raiders after the uncertainty at the position in 2018.
