Rams RB Kyren Williams returns to practice from injured reserve

THOUSAND OAKS — If Rams coach Sean McVay had any questions about where running back Kyren Williams would be physically after being activated from injured reserve on Wednesday morning, he did not have to wait long for answers.

“He looked like he was full-speed in the walk-through just now,” McVay said with an amused look on his face.

Williams was a full participant in Wednesday’s practice five weeks after suffering an ankle sprain that sent him to injured reserve. Prior to the injury, Williams had taken over as the Rams’ lead back and despite the four missed games he still leads the team with 97 carries for 456 yards and six touchdowns.

McVay said there are no plans to limit Williams as he returns to practice for the first time since he required a cast around his injured ankle.

“I think you want to be smart about it, I think you want to be able to simulate some drills without the risk of injury,” McVay said. “If he’s feeling good, we want him to be able to have a normal workload.”

The Rams expect the second-year running back to play against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday and have already made room for him on the roster, on Tuesday waiving veteran Darrell Henderson and on Wednesday signing Henderson to the practice squad.

Rams receiver Cooper Kupp (ankle) was a non-participant on Wednesday as the team holds out hope he’ll be able to play Sunday after suffering his injury in the first half of last weekend’s victory over Seattle. Wide receiver Puka Nacua (shoulder) was limited.
