Rece Davis picks North Carolina to win, cover against N.C. State
NC State has a chance to keep a couple of streaks going when it faces North Carolina on Saturday. The Wolfpack are looking for their fifth straight win this season and their third straight victory in the rivalry series vs. UNC this weekend.
Still, it’s North Carolina that enters the game as a 2.5-point favorite, according to FanDuel . The Tar Heels are favored, despite struggling some down the stretch. The over-under for the game is set at 55.5.

ESPN College GameDay host Rece Davis made his pick for the rivalry matchup earlier this week on the College GameDay Podcast . Davis went the opposite way of Pete Thamel and Bill Connelly, who both like the Wolfpack in the game.
“Because you guys picked NC State, and I have not become less enamored with Drake Maye as a prospect,” Davis said as he explained his decision.
“There have been moments of magic and brilliance this year, and there have been opportunities that weren’t seized. But I’m going to say in a rivalry game, maybe his last game, who knows what he does in the bowl game. I’m going to go with Drake and North Carolina.”
Even though Davis is picking North Carolina to win and cover the spread, it’s clear that he’s not a huge believer in the Tar Heels. Davis acknowledged that he very well could regret his pick come Saturday night.
“Probably one of those [game] that I’m going to go, ‘Really? Really? ... You didn’t believe and went ahead and went there anyway?’ So I’m going to go with Carolina. Don’t love it, but that’s how I’ll go,” Davis said.
It’s easy to see why Davis isn’t a big believer in the Tar Heels. After starting the season 6-0, UNC has dropped games to Virginia , Georgia Tech and Clemson in recent weeks.
North Carolina has an explosive offense led by one of the best quarterback in the country in Drake Maye, but UNC keeps coming up short.
“I think the Tar Heels have been, for a team with a good record, as disappointing as anyone with a good record. It’s just a blown opportunity,” Davis said. “I mean Georgia Tech and Virginia improved over the course of the season, [but] you can’t lose those games. I’ll kind of give them the road loss at Clemson – whatever. But what a blown opportunity for North Carolina this year, with this quarterback, with the number of weapons that they’ve been able to develop. Getting Tez Walker midseason. And still – same as it ever was.”

Both NC State and North Carolina would love to end the regular season on a high note after experiencing their share of struggles throughout the year.
