State officials said the patients reported eating meals between October 31 and November 7 and becoming ill starting from November 4 through November 9.

There was also a case at Hen House Eatery in Minneapolis. The people affected range in age from 9 to 70 years of age and two of the people have been hospitalized, MDH says.

Officials said the owners of Red Cow and Hen House Eatery have fully cooperated with the investigation and have made multiple changes that include product changes to prevent further illnesses.

On Friday the Red Cow published a statement to its Facebook page regarding the reported cases.

The statement says in part that all Red Cow locations passed inspection and have been thoroughly disinfected and sanitized.

Red Cow also says they took immediate action by removing the suspected product, which was also purchased by 61 other restaurants, and switching providers.

MDH's news release issued on Friday also said the ground beef product linked to the illnesses was distributed to other establishments, which means it is possible that there will be additional cases of E. Coli illness associated with other businesses.

Health officials say symptoms of E. Coli illness, which tend to show up 2-5 days after exposure, typically include stomach cramps and diarrhea, often with bloody stools, but only a low-grade or no fever.

Most people recover in 5 to 10 days, but the infection can lead to severe complications involving kidney failure and other major health issues, MDH says.
