Red Flag Warning issued for parts of VT and NH

It's not every day that we see a Red Flag Warning issued in our region, but that's the case for Vermont today. A Red Flag Warning has been posted for central Vermont and the Lower Connecticut River Valley for the potential of fires to spark and spread fast due to the weather conditions. This warning is in effect until Friday evening. The ingredients fueling our local Red Flag Warning includes persistent moderate to severe drought conditions, lack of rain in the short-term, low relative humidity, breezy north winds (gusting up to 30 mph), and the abundance of extremely dry leaf litter on forest floors. Many burn bans are in effect across the Green Mountain State and other communities in northern New York. PLEASE, do not have any open burns and heed all burn pans that have been issued for your local area. Also, make sure you are disposing of your cigarettes properly. It only takes one hot ember to fly away into the woods to spark a rapidly intensifying brush and/or wildfire. The next best chance for a few showers rolls around for early next week, but that won't help extinguish these fire weather concerns. The better chance for more widespread, steadier rain will arrive late next week. Stay safe and remain weather aware friends!
