Replacement for Blackhawk helicopter to be assembled in Amarillo
The replacement for the Blackhawk helicopter will be assembled in Amarillo.
Bell Textron Inc. announced "final assembly" of the Future Long Range Assault Aircraft will happen at its plant near Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport.
When Bell won the contract in December 2002, the Army said the initial award was for $232 million. But the total contract could be worth as much as $1.3 billion.

In June, the House passed the for Fiscal Year 2025. It fully funds the FLRAA program and the continued development of the V-280 Valor.
"The U.S. Army's new long-range assault aircraft will fly twice as far and twice as fast as the (Blackhawk). By utilizing mature tiltrotor technology coupled with an innovative digital engineering approach and a modular systems approach, it will be the most reliable, affordable and high-performing long-range assault aircraft in the world," said Bell.
