Report: Bryce Young Has 'Momentum' to Start for Panthers vs. Giants over Andy Dalton

Dustin Bradford/Icon Sportswire via Carolina Panthers veteran quarterback Andy Dalton is continuing to make progress in his recovery from a recent car accident, but it sounds like the team will be sticking with second-year signal-caller Bryce Young for a bit longer.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported that Young "appears to have momentum to get a third consecutive start despite Andy Dalton's improving health" as the Panthers prepare to face the New York Giants in Germany on Sunday.

Fowler went on to explain the factors that Panthers head coach Dave Canales will consider when deciding whether Young will continue starting over Dalton.

"This is a bit of a moving target, as Canales benched Young because he thought Dalton gave Carolina the best chance to win. Maybe Canales still believes that," Fowler stated. "But Dalton, who hurt his thumb two weeks ago in a family car accident, opened the door for Young, who has been unspectacular but improved. And teams I've talked to around the league believe Carolina should stick with Young to see what he can do and what can be salvaged."

Young threw for 224 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in a Week 8 loss to the Denver Broncos and recorded 171 yards, a touchdown and an interception in this past Sunday's win over the New Orleans Saints, which ended Carolina's five-game losing streak.

The 2023 No. 1 pick appears to still be struggling to adjust to life in the NFL, but the Panthers need to determine if he's truly their quarterback of the future. Young's development over the latter half of the season will go a long way toward helping Carolina decide if it needs another reset as the franchise continues its rebuild.

The Panthers will be facing a Giants defense that allows just 191.6 passing yards per game, so Young could be in for a tough test if he remains the starter this week.
