Report: 76ers' Tyrese Maxey to miss two weeks with hamstring injury
The 76ers are set to be without Tyrese Maxey for a couple of weeks due to a hamstring injury, per a report from ESPN's Shams Charania.
Maxey will be evaluated later Thursday. The club is already dealing with the absence of Joel Embiid (knee) and only just got Paul George back from his knee injury two games ago.
Maxey exited Wednesday's loss to the Los Angeles Clippers after 32 minutes. The team is off to a 1-6 start, tied for the worst in the league with the Bucks, whom the 76ers lost to on opening night.
George missed the first five games of the season after hyperextending his knee in preseason. Embiid remains out as the club manages the health of his surgically repaired knee, with a three-game suspension for shoving a columnist still on the books for once he's prepared to return. The center is back practicing and could return as soon as next week.
Without those two, Maxey has had to shoulder the load early in the season. He's averaged 23.6 field goal attempts per game, tied with Dallas' Luka Doncic for the most in the NBA. His 27.6 points per game is eighth in the league, though has shooting percentages have taken a dive from last year's All-Star levels. His 39.7 minutes per game is tops in the NBA.
It's come at a cost, apparently.
Maxey's injury could delay the first instance of the 76ers uniting their Big 3. The team was 29-7 last year when Embiid and Maxey played together and famously 16-27 without Embiid. Maxey played 70 games last year; the 76ers were 4-8 without him in the lineup.
