Republican incumbent Logan Cunningham wins reelection in Beaufort County’s Dist. 7 by 35%
Republican incumbent Logan Cunningham won reelection in Beaufort County's District 7, defeating Democratic challenger Dr. Sarah McCarty. With all 13 precincts counted by 11:07 p.m., Cunningham won 6,093 votes or 67.2% of the unofficial tally. This victory marks Cunningham's second term representing the communities along Bluffton and Buckwalter Parkways.
McCarty received 32.6% of the votes.
"I am grateful for the opportunity to serve you for four more years," Cunningham wrote on Facebook. "Your support has been invaluable. Thank you!"
Cunningham's win paired with District 1's Gerald Dawson and District 3's York Glover's victory Tuesday night means the county council makeup will remain unchanged for the next session.
Cunningham, who has served on the council for four years, ran a campaign focused on the accomplishments of his first term and the importance of continuing his initiatives.
Throughout his campaign, Cunningham emphasized his commitment to responsible growth and development, pledging to maintain the county's charm while accommodating the inevitable population increase. He highlighted his efforts to secure more recreational ball fields in Bluffton and establish affordable workforce housing, saying that everyone who works in the community should be able to live in it.
Cunningham announced his work on improving local roads and transportation systems, especially the ongoing U.S. 278 bridge project and a proposed penny tax referendum that aims to secure funding for future improvements.
As he embarks on his second term, Cunningham expressed his intent to continue building trust with the community. He acknowledged concerns about transparency within the county council and vowed to increase public engagement through open forums and community meetings.
