Republican Jeff Gordon in the lead; wins Hampton
HAMPTON - Hampton residents provided close results when they cast their votes for national, state and local offices on Tuesday.
For president, Hampton chose Republican Donald Trump with 564 votes, giving Democrat Kamala Harris 541 votes. Green Party candidate Jill Stein and Libertarian Chase Oliver each received 3 votes, while Robert Kennedy Jr., who withdrew from the presidential race, received 6.
Hampton residents gave Democratic incumbent Christopher Murphy 525 votes to keep his seat as US Senator, while Republican opponent received 521. But Murphy also received another 25 votes from his cross-endorsement from the Working Families party. Green Party candidate Justin Paglino and Cheaper Gas and Groceries candidate Robert Finley Hyde each received 6 votes.
Hampton selected Democratic incumbent Joe Courtney to return as US Representative with 575 votes, while Republican challenger Mike France received 518 votes.
Hampton also backed incumbent Republican state senator Jeff Gordon to return to the 35th seat with 606 votes, while Democratic opponent Merry Garrett received 440 votes, plus another 20 from her Working Families endorsement and 16 from her Independent candidacy.
Gordon was leading late Tuesday night, but the total was still unknown. "We're waiting for more numbers," Gordon said. "So far, so good."
State Representative Pat Boyd, a Democrat, was unopposed to represent the 50th house district again, but received 616 votes in Hampton.
Hampton residents chose Republican Douglas Stearns to fill the seat as Judge of Probate with 573 votes, while Democrat George Baker took 476 votes. Both candidates for Registrar of Voters were guaranteed to be elected: Republican Dayna McDermott will be returned with just 3 votes, while Democrat Sulema Perez-Pagan earned 603.
