'Republicans for Harris' Campaign Reported to FEC
Turning Point's political action committee has filed a complaint against the " Republicans for Harris" campaign group to the Federal Election Commission.
Tyler Bowyer, COO of the conservative organization Turning Point Action, who campaigned on behalf of President-elect Donald Trump , accused the group made up of GOP figures backing Vice President Kamala Harris of violating federal law with its advertising in Arizona and not making full disclosures to the public.
An FEC spokesperson told Newsweek any complaints potentially filed with the agency must remain confidential until they are resolved. Newsweek has contacted the Republicans for Harris group for comment via social media and Turning Point Action for comment via email.
Harris campaigned heavily on convincing disillusioned Republicans to vote for her over Trump, including appearing on the campaign trail several times with former GOP Wyoming Congresswoman Liz Cheney. Her father, former Republican Vice President Dick Cheney , also endorsed Harris in the 2024 race.
The tactic did not appear to work. Not only did Harris seem to lose part of the support of Democrats who voted in the 2020 election, she only got the backing of 5 percent of registered Republican voters, according to a CNN exit poll. This is just slightly more than the 4 percent of registered Democrats who voted for Trump over Harris.
"Turning Point PAC just filed an FEC Complaint against the sham 'Republicans for Harris' campaign in Arizona," Bowyer posted on X, formerly Twitter , on Thursday while sharing a letter of complaint to the FEC.
"Not only was their campaign an embarrassing failure, we believe they did not make proper disclosures to the general public. We do believe it is important to expose dark money backers, bad actors and the entities who have been manipulating Arizonans for a far too long," Bowyer added.
Harris was criticized for overly appealing to Republican voters during the campaign.
"You spent hours with Liz Cheney , and guess what? We find out Liz Cheney was inconsequential," an unmanned Democratic strategist who is a Harris ally told NBC News.
The Arizona chapter of the Republicans for Harris group was chaired by Mesa Mayor John Giles and the former state representative, Robin Shaw.
Multiple other figures linked to the GOP also endorsed Harris in the 2024 race, including former Arizona Senator Jeff Flake , former Trump press secretary Stephanie Grisham and ex-Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan. Jimmy McCain, the youngest son of the late Arizona Senator John McCain , also said he would vote Harris, adding that he had changed his voter registration to Democrat .
Trump is currently nearly 6 points ahead of Harris in Arizona (52 percent to 46), with 76 percent of votes counted, according to The Associated Press. Trump is on course to sweep all seven battleground states.
In a statement made hours before Trump was declared the winner of the 2024 race, Republicans for Harris said: "Thank you to every single Republican who voted for Kamala Harris today. You took a stand on the right side of history."
