Residents Voice Opposition To Proposed New Development In Fairfield Local developers are seeking to build a 40-unit, mixed use complex at 2179 and 2199 Post Road and 29 Fairfield Place.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield's Town Plan and Zoning Commission has scheduled a public hearing for Tuesday on a proposed mixed-use development at 2179 and 2199 Post Road and 29 Fairfield Place in Southport, and some residents have already voiced opposition to the plan.

The large development is being proposed by Sunshine Acquisition Group LLC and its principals, Fairfield residents Marc Andre and Alexander Leykikh.

Rising more than 50 feet in the air, the structure would measure more than 76,000 square feet, and contain 40 residential units, and space for retail businesses and a restaurant.

Some of the residential units would be designated as affordable; the site would also hold a public plaza, and carry 71 parking spaces.

"Our vision for this development includes provision for upscale interior and exterior amenities and architecture that will be of high quality, unique and attractive," the application reads. "We believe that the outdoor space/public plaza in conjunction with a restaurant will provide an opportunity for a highly dynamic and multi functional area that will animate activities in the proposed mixed use community as well as the surrounding neighborhood."

Last month, a proposed development that would have housed a Porsche dealership was denied by the Town Plan and Zoning Commission, in part due to environmental concerns.

The proposed Porsche development is across the Post Road from where the Sunshine Acquisition Group complex would be.

In letters to the commission, several residents who live near the proposed site, particularly in the adjacent Lindbergh Street area, say that they believe the proposed development would cause traffic and safety issues. Additionally, they believe the proposed structure is out of character with the neighborhood, and could run afoul of zoning regulations due to its size.

Tuesday's hearing is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in the Fairfield Regional Fire School, 205 Richard White Way.
