Richard "Dick" Horst

Richard "Dick" Horst, of Dauberville, peacefully died at his home on November 13, 2024. Horst was the loving son of Jane Smith and Herbert Horst. He was born in Rome, New York, on April 14, 1944 and grew up in Reading, graduating from Reading High School in 1962.

At Reading High, he was introduced to two of his lifetime loves, his wife of 58 years, Donna "Dee" Dewald, and the sport of wrestling. Horst played football and wrestled at Albright College and went on to start the wrestling program at Wyomissing High School, where he also taught science for 38 years. After retirement, he continued his involvement with the sport and served as an assistant coach at Schuylkill Valley High School. In 2019, he was inducted into the National Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Additionally, Horst was an avid gardener and native plant enthusiast. He enjoyed being a member of the local Master Gardeners, volunteering at Hawk Mountain and spending summers along the Maiden Creek. He will be remembered by his family and friends for his generosity and willingness to always share the bountiful harvest of corn, potatoes, peppers, tomatoes, and numerous other vegetables he grew each year.

Horst is survived by his wife; his three children: Peter Horst, Matthew Horst, and Katie Horst Pesce; and two sisters, Robin Oberholtzer and Linda Liptak. He has ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren, who will remember him as their loving, thoughtful, and supportive pop-pop.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Kuhn Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. Condolences may be written at www.KuhnFuneralHomes.com.
