Right-wing media narratives substitute mythology for facts (Letter)

J.Mitchell31 min ago

The Democratic Party's problem is not with their policies but with right-wing disinformation found on cable networks, social platforms and podcasts. Americans who receive news on these platforms believe the economy is in terrible shape, inflation is out of control, unemployment is soaring, crime in our cities is rampant, illegal migration of criminals, murderers and asylum patients is an invasion and they receive Social Security, Medicaid, and other benefits, transgender people are overwhelming organized sports and gender reassignment surgery for children is routine.

None of this is true. The economy is soaring, inflation is largely under control, unemployment is at historic lows, crime rates are falling, illegal border crossings are currently lower than under the first Trump administration with no evidence that prisons are being emptied out and these workers are paying Social Security taxes without receiving any benefits. Transgender sport participation is practically nonexistent and reassignment surgery of children is rare if it occurs at all.

Half of Americans receive this disinformation on a daily basis. Until the Democrats find a way to penetrate the right-wing narrative, no policy adjustments will make a difference.
