Robinson elects May as mayor, and other local election news
Challengers topped incumbents Tuesday in the Robinson and Riesel city council elections, while voters in the Robinson, Bruceville-Eddy, Axtell and Moody school districts added newcomers to their school boards.
Robinson City
In the race for the mayor's seat, Greg May defeated incumbent Mayor Bert Echterling with 3,161 votes, or 53.3%, to Echterling's 2,767 votes, or 46.7%.
Donnie Finn took the contested Place 6 city council seat, 2,787 votes, or 56.8%, to 2,120 or 43.2%, for incumbent Michael Baker.
Robinson ISD
In the open race for Place 1 on the Robinson school board, Kacey Darnell won with 3,243 votes, or 67.2%, to 1,585, or 32.8%, for Jon Richards.
West City
Jerrel Bolton joined incumbents Chris Nors and Matt Miller in election to the West school board with 564 votes for Bolton, 629 votes for Chris Nors, 398 for Miller, 387 for Crystal Middleton-Anthony and 301 for Matthew Nemec.
West ISD
Place 5 board member Mike Gerik won reelection with 2,733 votes, or 72.7%, to 1,027 votes, or 27.3%, for Jessica Kapavik.
Axtell ISD
Mark McCallister won election to the Axtell school board with incumbents Stephanie Amy, Joe "Scooter" Bays and Joseph Carl Reinke reelected in a closely contested race. Bays had 693 votes, McCallister 621, Amy 599, Joseph Carl Reinke 571, Brian Frankum 498, Kevin Willis 496, Beni Lupu 466, Jamie Brannen 396 and Brooke Tennison 341.
Bruceville-Eddy City
Incumbents Ricky Wiggins and Graham McGruer won reelection with Justin Richardson narrowly earning a seat in the Bruceville-Eddy city council election. Wiggins had 323 votes, McGruer 134, Richardson 116, Rick Edmiston 114, Colton Smith 109 and write-in candidate John Coleman 28.
Bruceville-Eddy ISD
In the Place 3 race for Bruceville-Eddy school board, Melanie Griffin won with 725 votes with 439 for Angel Nevarez and 132 for incumbent Ki Jones.
Doug Murrey held on to his Place 5 seat with 693 votes to 560 for Debanhi Jobe.
Moody City
Cody Goodwin won election to the city council with 283 votes with incumbent John Carpenter winning reelection with 164 votes to 137 for incumbent Richard A. Moore.
Moody ISD
Beth Alton won election to the Moody school board in a crowded race with 462 votes and incumbent Eddie Newman was reelected with 379. Jesse Fugitt had 369, Chris "HilBily" Slaughter had 241, incumbent Misty Kinsey-Petree had 201, Amanda Beckner Layne 133 and Geoff Goodson 68.
Oglesby ISD
Incumbents Ronnie Sullins, Liz Caraway and James Seymour won reelection. Sullins had 335 votes, Caraway 228, Seymour 256, Joseph Meyers 177, Stephanie Markum 158 and Cynthia Rodriguez 114.
Riesel City
Challengers Kevin Wunderlich and Deanna Davis won election to the city council with 272 votes for Wunderlich and 193 for Davis. Jeanne Lehrmann had 133 votes and incumbent Debbie Kilgore had 124.
Riesel voters also approved a street tax reauthorization of 1/4 of 1%, with 387 voting for, or 78.8%, and 107 against, or 21.2%.
