Rockford man arrested in DUI crash in Monroe Center

MONROE CENTER, Ill. (WTVO) — A Rockford man was arrested in Monroe Center on drunk driving charges Tuesday night after slamming into a pole, police said.

Ogle County deputies were dispatched to the intersection of Jata Drive and Mulford Road around 7:35 p.m. and found a blue Hyundai Sonata had been involved in the crash.

The driver, Logan Huber, 28, was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and illegal transportation of alcohol.

He was taken to the Ogle County Jail and later released with a notice to appear at a future court date.

A judge recused himself Tuesday from presiding over Arizona's fake electors case after an email surfaced in which he told fellow judges to speak out against attacks on Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign for the presidency. In the Aug. 29 email, Maricopa County Judge Bruce Cohen lamented that he didn't speak out when Harris was called a "DEI hire," believes that white men must speak out against unfair treatment of women, and raised a historical lesson from the Holocaust about the need to speak up when people are attacked. Cohen didn't specify who made the comment regarding Harris.

A driver has died after going around a barricade on a hurricane-damaged North Carolina highway that became a symbol of Helene's destruction, then driving off the roadway, officials said. Photos of Interstate 40 with multiple lanes washed out by Helene near the Tennessee state line garnered widespread attention in the days after the storm as the region was largely cut off by numerous road closures. Emergency workers from Tennessee and North Carolina responded to a report of a crash involving a vehicle that went off the collapsed road and down an embankment on eastbound I-40 on Saturday night, according to a news release from the Junaluska Community Volunteer Fire Department.

An arrest report gives more details about what occurred before a man was shot to death Wednesday in the 3200 block of West Edgewood Avenue. A man who worked for the U.S. government has been charged with leaking classified information assessing Israel's earlier plans to attack Iran, according to court papers filed Wednesday. The man, identified as Asif William Rahman, was arrested by the FBI this week in Cambodia and was due to make his first court appearance in Guam. The documents noted that Israel was still moving military assets in place to conduct a military strike in response to Iran's blistering ballistic missile attack on Oct. 1.
