Rod Stewart may sell sports cars over Essex pothole woes

Sir Rod Stewart has said he may have to sell his five beloved sports cars because there are so many potholes on the roads near his home. The singer-songwriter, 79, was filmed back in March 2022 picking up a shovel to fill the crevasses along the damaged road near Harlow in Essex. Writing on his Instagram account, Sir Rod said: "I am extremely fortunate and eternally grateful to be the owner of these five beautiful hybrid sports cars, which, in my opinion, are true 'works of art'. "Unfortunately, because of the potholes on our roads, I may have to find new owners for them." Two years ago Sir Rod took it upon himself to try to fix the roads , claiming "no-one can be bothered to do it". He said: "People are bashing their cars up. The other day, there was an ambulance with a burst tyre. "My Ferrari can't go through here at all." Posting a picture of himself and friends filling in the holes, he said at the time: "This is the state of the road near where I live in Harlow and it's been like this for ages. "So me and the boys thought we would come and do it ourselves." Following the singer's DIY attempts, Essex County Council fixed the roads, and a spokesman said: "We would be happy for Sir Rod Stewart to accompany one of our road-patching gangs for a day." On his Instagram post this week, Sir Rod said: "I've been driving these iconic Italian cars since the 70s, and I absolutely love and adore them. "This post is for my fans - thank you, as you are the sole reason I own them." Sir Rod, who is a member of the US Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and was knighted by the late Queen Elizabeth II in 2016, is continuing to tour, and will head to Spain and Denmark for shows next month.
