Rodney Terry provides injury updates on Tramon Mark, Devon Pryor
Texas guard Tramon Mark and forward Devon Pryor were held out on Monday when the No. 19 Longhorns fell to the Ohio State Buckeyes 82-70 in Las Vegas. Mark was ruled out due to a right ankle injury while Pryor missed the contest because of an ailment in his left ankle. On Thursday, Longhorns head coach Rodney Terry provided an update on the two players.
"I think the one thing about Tramon is they're doing a great job with it right now," Terry said. "Our training staff is excellent. Warren (Young) is the best in the business. But I think where we are with him right now is he's going to be out indefinitely right now until we have him at a full slate. We don't want to have to bring him out, then have some issues with his ankle situation and it lingers for the better part of the season.
"When we put him out there or give him an opportunity to get out there, we want to make sure he's at full tilt and ready to go, and he's ready to play at the level he's capable of playing. We'll continue to work through it. With other guys getting those opportunities, it's a next man mentality. That's where we are with his situation. Likewise with Devon Pryor. Both of those guys will be guys we have out indefinitely until they're able to come back and be full strength for us."
Mark, a transfer from Arkansas who started his career at Houston, averaged 16.2 points and 4.3 rebounds last season for the Razorbacks. At Houston he was part of the Cougars' 2021 Final Four team, 2022 Elite Eight Team, and 2023 Sweet Sixteen team. For his career, Mark averages 11.2 points and 4.0 rebounds on 42 percent shooting.
Pryor, a sophomore who appeared in seven games for the Horns last season, scored five points in 25 minutes in 2023-24. He also pulled down seven rebounds.
When pressed on if Mark's injury putting him out "indefinitely" meant a redshirt might be on the table for the 6-foot-5 scoring forward should it persist into Southeastern Conference play, Terry made it sound like the Arkansas transfer's return wasn't a far-off event.
"Tramon, I don't think it'll get to that point," Terry said. "I think our training staff and the people that are working with him, our specialists he seeing, they have a pretty good plan in terms of getting him back at full strength. We just don't want to put a timetable on it. I want to make sure that when we do put him back out there, he's ready to go at full slate. I think, again, I don't foresee it being that long of a period, but I don't want to say a definite time."
The Longhorns look to earn their first win of the 2024-25 season on Friday when they host the Houston Christian University Huskies. Tip time at the Moody Center is scheduled for 7 p.m. The game will be televised on SEC Network+.
