Despite losing a two-goal lead in the third period, the Tri-City Storm struck early in overtime on Nolan Roed's second goal of the season to defeat the Madison Capitols 4-3 on Saturday night at the Viaero Center.

The victory is Tri-City's (2-2-2, 6 pts) first overtime win of the 2024-25 season. With the loss, Madison falls to 2-2-2 on the year (6 pts).

Tri-City split the two-game weekend series with Madison, who collected a 3-2 victory on Friday.

No goals were scored in the first period of the contest. Each side, however, traded numerous quality scoring chances. Madison outshot Tri-City 10-7 in the opening frame.

The second period was a different story, however. The Storm put up a trio of goals in the middle frame to take a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes. Tri-City collected 15 shots against Madison's eight in the period.

Tri-City began the scoring early in the second. Nolan Roed fed Cam Briere in the left wing circle of the Storm offensive zone. Briere took the puck through a pair of Madison defenders, then effectively made a deke on Madison goaltender Ajay White to stuff the puck in the back of the net. It was Briere's second goal of the season.

A little over two minutes later, Carmelo Crandell won a board battle against Madison defender Austin Moline in the left wing corner of the Capitol zone. The Arizona State commit then took the puck to the left circle and whistled a shot past White to make it 2-0. Crandell collected his third point of the weekend and team-leading third goal of the year.

Madison cut the Tri-City lead in half at the 8:01 mark of the second period. While on the power play after a Colby Woogk slashing minor, Capitols forward Ryker Lee drove the puck through the middle of the Tri-City zone, then made a backhand-forehand move at the Storm net to get the puck past Tri-City goaltender Adam Dybal at the right post.

The Storm scored their third goal by taking advantage of a Madison turnover in the Capitols zone during the final moments of the second period. Lincoln Hjelm grabbed a loose puck and got it to Rhys Wallin in the right wing circle. Wallin muscled a strong wrist shot top shelf into the Madison cage for his second goal of the season to make it a 3-1 game.

Madison came back in the third period, however, to tie the game at 3-3. The Captiol's offense generated 14 shots to Tri-City's six in the frame.

Aiden Long scored his second of the campaign at the 9:59 mark of the third to make it a one-goal contest after receiving a net-front feed from Diego Johnson below the goal line.

A little less than four minutes later, during an extended scramble in front of the Tri-City net, Johnson found a loose puck and stuffed it inside the left post past Dybal to tie the game.

The Storm scored their overtime winner on a rush play at the 1:17 mark of the extra frame. After Tri-City grabbed a rebounded puck in their own zone, Roed, who scored his second of the year, skated down the left wing into the Storm offensive end. The St. Cloud State commit dropped a pass to the high slot, where Carson Pilgrim fired a shot that was stopped by the pad of White. Roed, positioned on the left post of the cage, collected the rebound off White's leg and buried it to hand Tri-City its first overtime victory of the season.

Pilgrim's assist on the winning tally was his third point of the game. The Warroad, Minnesota native's trio led all Tri-City players on the night. Madison's Diego Johnson, who recorded a goal and an assist, was the only other player to notch a multi-point effort on Saturday.

Storm goaltender Adam Dybal stopped 29 of 32 shots in net. Madison's White halted 25 of 29 Tri-City attempts.
