Rookie Bakersfield officers renovate rooms for kids on their first day

Rookie Bakersfield police officers spent their first day on the job helping kids in need in Bakersfield. Instead of patrolling the streets, the recent graduates of the academy worked with The Healthy Room Project to renovate the rooms of children in our community.

The non-profit goes to at-risk areas and identifies kids between 5 and 16 who could use a personal space.

They provide essentials such as beds, a fresh coat of paint, and a desk.

It is all done in hopes of creating an environment where the child can come in, decompress, and make the space their own.
