Rosalynn Carter 's great-grandson Charlie Carter has fond memories of his family's late matriarch.

At the Jimmy Carter 100: A Celebration in Song tribute concert in Atlanta, Ga., the 10-year-old told PEOPLE that his "favorite memory" of Rosalynn was when she carted him around on her walker a few years before her death.

"When I was like five or six, we went to the Carter Center Weekend — like the whole family is invited," Charlie said, in reference to the annual retreat and auction in support of global peace and health.

"We went up to Mama Carter and Papa Carter's room and Mama Carter picked me up and put me on her little walker and just rolled me around. That is my favorite memory of her," he recalled.

The former first lady died at age 96 surrounded by family on Nov. 19, 2023, shortly after she entered hospice care following a dementia diagnosis . She was married to the nation's 39th president, Jimmy Carter , for 77 years and served as the first lady during his presidential run from 1977 to 1981.

The couple share sons John William "Jack," James Earl "Chip," Donnel Jeffrey "Jeff" and daughter Amy Carter. Between their four adult children, they have 22 grandchildren and great-grandchildren .

Their grandson Josh Carter attended the recent celebration, which took place at the Fox Theatre, with his wife and two sons, Charlie and Jonathan, 6.

The event featured several celebrity guests, including Angélique Kidjo, BeBe Winans, The B-52s , Renée Zellweger and Terry Pendleton.

During the event, Charlie also opened up about the legacy of his family, particularly the former president, who turns 100 on Oct. 1.

"He accomplished a lot in life and he is still accomplishing a lot. Turning 100 is a big milestone, so I don't know how I am going to fill those shoes," the 10-year-old said. "But I know one thing, music brings us together so I think it's very important for us to celebrate his 100 by putting on a big musical show in the Fox."
