Route 141 in Valley Park closed due to flooding
VALLEY PARK, Mo. – MoDOT closed Route 141 in Valley Park Thursday as water began to cover a stretch of the highway that dips under Interstate 44.
Fenton resident Michael Arens stopped with his children to look as he planned how to make trips to both sides of the closure for sporting event practices.
"This is the third time that I've actually been here that I've seen water close off this road," he said.
MoDOT crews are on the scene monitoring conditions. The transportation agency expects the closure to remain through the weekend.
During Thursday evening's rush hour, traffic backed up along the I-44 and nearby detours, including Bowles Avenue.
"It's really put a damper on my day," I-44 traveler Brien Grim said.
Gina Brand stopped at the nearby Wally's waiting for the traffic jam to subside.
"It's pretty much a mess right now," she said. "We're not going very far, so that's why we stopped to get a snack."
Some workers at nearby P'sghetti's had their commute delayed.
"I went my normal route, and I did run into some flooding," Samantha Wentz said.
Coworker Mackenzie Roberts said some callers were happy to learn the business has remained open despite the flooding.
"We still had lots of people come in and lots of DoorDash deliveries as well," she said.
