RTD increases downtown loop frequency after monthslong reconstruction project

DENVER ( KDVR ) — After months of reconstruction work , the Regional Transportation District is once again operating its D, H and L lines in Denver's downtown loop , and is changing the routes' stop frequency at the same time.

However, maintenance on the D line will lead to buses replacing that line's service through Thursday. The D line maintenance is planned for Monday through Thursday, with some final trips of each night canceled in each direction. Those trips are from the Littleton and Mineral Station at 10:12 p.m. and from the 18th and Stout Station at 10:57 p.m.

Additionally, bus shuttles will not be available on Monday, as crews will not begin work until late in the day.

The disruption will allow crews to replace overhead wires near Evans Station. To avoid the construction, customers can use the H line or bus Route 0 to travel north toward downtown from Interstate 25 and Broadway Station. Shuttle bus boarding will be at the Englewood Station's Gate A, Evans Station's Gate C, and the I-25 and Broadway Station's Gate A2.

Trains will operate as scheduled between the Littleton and Mineral station and Englewood. Full service will return to the D Line on Friday, Oct. 4.

However, the transportation agency is also adjusting its schedule, something that occurs three times a year in an attempt to address ridership changes, traffic patterns and customer feedback. RTD shared its plan for rail and bus service changes, which include:

  • D, H and L lines are once again serving the downtown loop

  • E and H light rail frequencies have been increased to 30 minutes after completing of the coping panels project on the southeast corridor

  • The W line is operating at a 15-minute frequency on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • Route 0 has been split in two, which are now:

  • Route 0: Broadway, between Englewood and Union stations

  • Route 0B: South Broadway, between Englewood and Highlands Ranch Town Center stations

  • Route 40 has increased to a 15-minute frequency on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • Because the downtown rail reconstruction project's first phase has been completed, the Free MetroRide service that was temporarily instated to support the D and H lines detour into Denver Union Station will be discontinued.

Residents near Colfax concerned about traffic issues from Bus Rapid Transit plans

The Free MallRide has been restored to five-minute frequencies and the 0L lines will return to peak-only service.

RTD riders can use the trip planner app to plan for any potential travel adjustments. Customers can also keep up to date on service by signing up for RTD's service alerts . A full listing of the transportation agency's September 2024 service changes is available here.
