Runner's act of kindness at Arkansas state championship
At a cross-country state championship in Hot Springs, Arkansas, one high school senior was running her last race.
Kaylee Montgomery from Batesville was trying for her personal best.
Just 40 yards from the finish line, another runner fell to the ground in exhaustion, struggling to stand.
As other runners were passing by, Montgomery stopped to help Julia Witherington of Greenwood off the ground.
Montgomery, also tired from running 3 miles herself, put her arm around Witherington and walked her across the finish line.
"I was just telling her that you got this, and we're almost there, and I just kept praying out loud for the Lord to give her strength," Montgomery said.
Witherington said she was grateful for the help.
"If she hadn't stopped and picked me up, I would have been crawling across the line," Witherington said.
