John Oliver quipped during his 11th season finale of Last Week Tonight that Matt Gaetz, the Florida Republican nominated by President-elect Donald J. Trump to become the next attorney general despite a House ethics investigation into his alleged sexual misconduct, was voted by his high-school class as "Most likely to not be allowed within 500 feet of here." But that's nothing compared to the real-life animosity Gaetz has inspired among his Republican congressional colleagues, as Oliver noted wry

Two weeks after the first openly transgender person was elected to Congress, Republican Rep. The bill hopes to prevent members and staff "using single-sex facilities other than those corresponding to their biol

A federal judge in Delaware on Monday dismissed a lawsuit filed by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee against social media giant Meta over advertisements using his name and image to sell CBD products. Huckabee, a Baptist minister and President-elect Donald Trump's nominee to be U.S. ambassador to Israel, claimed Meta allowed and profited from the advertisements that falsely claimed he used and endorsed CBD gummies. CBD, or cannabidiol, is one the main active ingredients in marijuana but does not, by itself, provide the high caused by psychoactive THC.

Rep. Nancy Mace, Republican of South Carolina, said on Monday that she will be introducing a measure to ban transgender women from using biological women's restrooms at the U.S. Capitol. The resolution, which is expected to be filed Monday night, would amend the rules of the U.S. House of Representatives in order to prohibit members, officers and employees from using facilities that are currently designated for the opposite biological sex. WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The U.S. Senate is due to vote on Wednesday on legislation that would block arms sales to Israel, backed by lawmakers who say Israel is obstructing aid shipments desperately needed by Palestinian civilians in Gaza. The "resolutions of disapproval" were filed by Senator Bernie Sanders, an independent who caucuses with Democrats. Strong bipartisan support for Israel means the resolutions are not expected to pass, but backers hope they will encourage Israel's government and President Joe Biden's administration to do more to protect civilians in Gaza.

COLOMBO (Reuters) -Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake retained the key finance minister portfolio and reappointed Harini Amarasuriya as prime minister on Monday as the Indian Ocean island nation targets stronger recovery from a draining financial crisis. Dissanayake, who has held the key finance minister portfolio since he was elected in September, will continue in that role, two party sources told Reuters, as Sri Lanka looks to chart a stronger recovery out of its worst financial crisis since independence from the British in 1948.

Biden said he has met firsthand with those harmed by the storms and he heard what residents and businesses needed from the federal government.

More than 150 people submitted opponent testimony against a bill that would require school districts to allow students to be released from school for religious instruction. Starmer, who became prime minister in July after his Labour Party won a landslide election victory, is seeking to repair relations with Beijing.
