SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Homecoming is here or about to be here around Siouxland, and it's important to know tips to keep your kids safe and out of trouble this school year.

The police recommend parents know their kids' locations and set up a curfew so they can get back home safely, as well as remind them of safe driving tips. That includes no distracted driving.

"During this Homecoming season, always remember that there's going to be young drivers out on the street, high school boys and girls who don't have a lot of experience driving, so remember that they are out there," Sioux City police sergeant Tom Gill said. "If you are one of those young people out there make sure your aren't on your phone texting."

With Homecoming week also comes pranks. Gill recommended to keep pranks legal and give a heads-up to people if you are going to toilet-paper their house.
