San Diego city attorney election results
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The race for San Diego city attorney has garnered a lot of attention from voters, with the campaigns for candidates Brian Maienschein, a state assembly member from the 76th district, and Heather Ferbert, a current chief deputy city attorney, focused on their qualifications for the role.
The person elected by voters will fill the seat left behind by current city attorney Mara Elliot, who is termed out. Elliot and members of the law community have endorsed Ferbert, while Maienschein has gained support from San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria and more politicians.
Unofficial results released by the Registrar of Voters just after polls closed at 8 p.m. Tuesday had Ferbert with an early lead in the hotly contested race.
These initial returns, which are not official results, largely account for ballots cast prior to Monday, Nov. 4 through early voting opportunities.
