San Diego Foundation Grants $114.5 Million, Sets Record with $4.9M for Students
In celebration of National Community Foundation Week, the San Diego Foundation announced Wednesday it granted $114.5 million to 2,313 nonprofits in fiscal year 2023-2024.
The foundation's annual report showed the organization gave $94 million to directly benefit San Diego County nonprofits spanning education, housing, food assistance, mental health services and the environment.
"Our donors and partners continued to step up in extraordinary ways last year to support nonprofits and communities that are furthest from opportunity," said Mark Stuart, San Diego Foundation president and CEO.
"With nearly $400 million in grantmaking since July 2021, together, we are making progress towards more just, equitable and resilient communities that provide access to opportunity for all San Diegans," Stuart said.
Among the highlights of the foundation's achievements was a record-breaking $4.9 million awarded in scholarships to 1,200 local students.
Other significant grants included $1.4 million for emergency response efforts aiding survivors of historic regional floods, $1.3 million to support early childhood services and $875,000 for expanding mental health resources for youth.
The foundation also secured $42 million in state and federal grants to fund climate-resilient projects in San Diego's historic barrios, officials said.
