Santa Fe National Forest planning prescribed burns on the Española Ranger District

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Editor's note: This story has been updated with the information that officials are considering prescribed burns in the fall and winter.

Officials with the Santa Fe National Forest are planning for several prescribed burns in the Española Ranger District in the fall and winter. It includes a 647-acre broadcast burn in North Aztec Springs. The four burns would total 898 acres.

A community meeting is scheduled for September 25 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Forest Supervisor's Office (11 Forest Lane, Santa Fe.) The decision on whether to proceed with the prescribed burns depends on a number of factors including resource availability, fuel moisture levels, air quality, and weather forecasts.
