Schuyler girls golf competes in fourth tournament, cross country wins four medals

Schuyler girls golf began the week on Sept. 16 with a triangular at Quail Run Golf Course against Lakeview and Shelby-Rising City.

Warriors sophomore Leydi Santos Cortez scored a 69 to lead the team. Junior Aidee Lucero and freshman Leighton Short carded a 70 and a 77, respectively.

On Friday, it traveled to College Heights Country Club for the Crete Invite. The team scored a 553 with sophomore Abilene Lucero carding a 134 for the best score.

Short shot a 136, Santos Cortez recorded a 140 and Aidee and junior Areli Arellano ended the day with a 143.

Schuyler completed the Lakeview Invite at Quail Run on Sept. 12 shooting 612 as a team. Aidee completed the best round of 123. Santos Cortez shot a 138 while Short and Arellano finished one shot apart at 175 and 176, respectively.

The Warriors competed at the York Invite on Sept. 5 at York Country Club. Aidee carded a 129, Arellano scored a 149 and Santos Cortez shot a 177.

Their best tournament of the season was on Aug. 30 at the Seward Invite at Seward Community Golf Course. Schuyler finished with a team score of 529.

Aidee and Abilene led the way with a 123 and a 128, respectively. Santos Cortez shot a 137 and Arellano completed the round with a 141.

Schuyler competed at the Stanton quadrangular on Monday at Elkhorn Acres Golf Course. The Warriors will play at the Wayne Invite on Thursday at Wayne Country Club.

Cross Country

Schuyler collected four more medals on Thursday running at the Central City Invite at Valley View Country Club.

Warriors junior Miriam Deanda claimed a silver medal with a time of 20 minutes, 48.51 seconds. Aurora junior Alexis Ericksen won the race by 15.03 seconds.

Senior Alyza Arroyo captured another medal with a seventh-place finish. Arroyo completed the race in 21:35.75.

Schuyler sophomore Boo Hernandez and Erik Estayul added another medal placing 11th and 13th, respectively. Hernandez clocked in at 17:38.02 and Estayul crossed the finish line at 17:52.6.

The Warrior girls placed third with 56 points. Aurora won the meet with 27 points and Nebraska Christian finished as the runner-up with 34 points.

Schuyler boys placed fourth with 71 points. Lexington won with 21 points and Aurora claimed second with 33 points.

The Warriors ran at the Malcolm Invite on Tuesday at Branched Oak State Park. They'll compete at the North Bend Invite on Thursday at North Bend Golf Course before racing in the UNK Invite on Monday at Kearney Country Club.
