DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — Republican Brandun Schweizer has defeated his Democratic opponent Jarrett Clem for the State House seat representing the 104th District.

Results from Champaign and Vermilion Counties show that the incumbent representative and 21-year Marine Corps veteran won the election by a close margin of 50.85% of the vote and a margin of less than 800 ballots. Schweizer has been in the seat for less than a year following his appointment to replace Mike Marron, who abruptly retired last year. Now, Schweizer will have two more years to build on his experience.

Central IL statehouse race focuses on economic development, revitalization of district

Schweizer is the latest in a long line of Republicans to win the 104th District's seat, and he hopes a new term will allow him to push back on the Democratic supermajority in Springfield. His biggest focus will be on lowering the tax burden for people in downstate Illinois.

The 104th District is located in both Champaign and Vermilion Counties, and it includes the cities and villages of Danville, Tilton, Westville, Rantoul and Savoy.
