Scotch Plains-Fanwood 6-peats, Dayton‘s Willis wins all-around at Union County meet

Scotch Plains-Fanwood won its sixth straight Union County Championship title with a score of 106.3 on Thursday night.

The host team edged out Summit, which finished second with a score of 105.775. Westfield took third with a 105.55.

Dayton's Lailah Willis won the all-around title with a score of 36.9. Willis had the top scores on vault (9.55) and beam (9.45) and placed second on bars (8.65) and third on floor exercise (9.25).

Marissa DiBella, Scotch Plains-Fanwood's fifth-year coach, said it was a very proud moment for her program.

"This team proved that hard work, dedication and resilience leads to greatness," DiBella said. "Securing our sixth straight county championship title makes me so immensely proud.

"The competition was tight, but we fought hard until the end. Coming out on top is just a bonus for being able to call this group of athletes my team."

Summit's Caraline Delikaris finished second in the all-around with a score of 36.125. Delikaris placed second on vault (8.975), first on bars (8.8), second on beam (9.275) and fourth on floor exercise (9.075).

Westfield's Katherine McDermott took third in the all-around with a score of 35.95. McDermott finished third on vault (9.2), third on bars (8.625), fifth on beam (8.95) and fourth on floor exercise (9.175).

Cranford's Claire Werner had the second-best score on vault with a 9.3. Scotch Plains-Fanwood's Mary Katherine Hoffman placed third with a 9.0.

Union Catholic's Lorena Fajardo finished fourth on bars with an 8.6, while Scotch Plains-Fanwood's Maureen Whitney and Westfield's Madelyn Lee tied for fifth with scores of 8.6 and 8.525, respectively.

On beam, Scotch Plains-Fanwood's Nicole Perez placed third with a 9.15, followed by Summit's Charlotte Lemkau in fourth (9.1) and Cranford's Werner in fifth (8.95).

Summit's Lemkau won the floor exercise with a score of 9.4. Scotch Plains-Fanwood's Whitney finished second (9.3), followed by Scotch Plains-Fanwood's Perez in fifth (9.15) and Westfield's Nora Collins in sixth (9.1).
