Scranton unveils new gateway sign designs to revitalize downtown entryways

The city of Scranton unveiled designs for new gateway signs leading into downtown Scranton Monday.

Mayor Paige Cognetti, Scranton Tomorrow and a local architecture and engineering firm hope the signs will attract more attention to the downtown area of the city.

Cognetti says the signs have a refreshed and modernized design that are meant to acknowledge the city's past, present and future.

"Scranton Tomorrow received a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development and we partnered with Dx Dempsey and Reilly Associates. We were so excited when they brought their first concept to us. It is really important for us as part of our mission to make sure that we're connecting people from our downtown to our adjacent neighborhoods and from our neighborhoods back into our downtown," Leslie Collins, President and CEO Scranton Tomorrow.

The signs are planned to be placed on a few popular streets in the city and eventually replace the sign over the Biden Express Way.

Although the designs have been unveiled they are still awaiting grant funding to schedule a date to begin construction on the projects.
