Scranton Volleyball Team Beats King’s In Title Match

WILKES-BARRE – The King’s College women’s volleyball team lost out on its
chance to win a second consecutive MAC Freedom Conference championship
Saturday when the Lady Monarchs failed to hold on to a 2-1 lead and dropped a



King’s was led by Faith O’Dell, a Lake-Lehman graduate, who had 19 kills
and 23 digs. Crestwood graduate Sandy Tarabochia chipped in with 27 digs and
five kills.
King’s falls to 29-4 on the season. The Lady Royals (20-11) earned an
automatic berth in the NCAA Division III national tournament. King’s must now
await word on an at-large bid to the tourney, expected to be announced
tomorrow.

COLLEGE MEN’S SOCCER

Drew 6, King’s 0

MADISON, N.J. – Drew University exploded for five first-half goals, three
coming in a five-minute span, to shut out King’s College in the MAC Freedom
Conference championship match.

With the victory, Drew gains an automatic berth in the NCAA Division II
national tournament and improves to 17-3-1 on the year. The Monarchs conclude
their season at 9-9-1 and qualified for the MAC tournament for the first time
in school history.

Arcadia 3, Misericordia 2

The College Misericordia men’s soccer team scored two second-half goals,
but fell to Arcadia in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference championship game.

Trailing 3-0, Frank Carrozza got the Cougars on the board with an
unassisted goal in the 80th minute.

Len Bartone added a goal four minutes later with an assist from John Staub.

Dave Kern recorded 11 saves and was outstanding in goal for the Cougars.

Misericordia, 10-7, will await a possible ECAC playoff bid, which will be
announced tomorrow.

COLLEGE WOMEN’S SOCCER

Johns Hopkins 2, Misericordia 0

The College Misericordia women’s soccer team suffered a loss to Johns
Hopkins in the ECAC semifinals at Lebanon Valley.

After battling to a 0-0 tie through halftime, Hopkins scored on its only
two shots in the second half.

Misericordia outshot Hopkins, 14-9, and had the advantage in corners, 5-1.

The Cougars ended the season with the most victories in school history at




SLIPPERY ROCK – The Bloomsburg University men’s and women’s cross country
teams finished 13th and 12th, respectively, at the NCAA Regional Cross Country
Championships at Slippery Rock University. The men’s team finished with 301
points, while the women’s team had 308 points.

For the women, the top finisher was Bishop Hafey graduate Kim Gasper in




Scranton 1, Mary Washington 0

Freshman forward Sara Suchoski, a Coughlin graduate, scored the only goal
at the 19:27 mark of the first half to lead the University of Scranton to a

III Atlantic Region Friday evening.

The Royals, now 17-3, will advance to today’s Atlantic Region championship
match against the winner of Messiah College and Frostburg State. The Atlantic
Region champion advances to the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament next
Saturday at a site to be determined.

Suchoski’s goal was her team-leading 24th of the season, which ties Lori
Sndyer’s University of Scranton single-season mark set in 1984.
