Screven County EMA warns drivers of possible flooding, washed out roads
SCREVEN COUNTY, Ga. (WJBF) – Screven County Emergency Management Agency is cautioning drivers in Screven County and in the surrounding area about the threat posed by standing water on and along several roadways resulting from heavy, persistent rain in the past 24 hours.
As the rain continues to fall, the threat could grow and roads that were not flooded may become so.
Currently, a few rural roadways are being reported as having washouts and there is standing water on top of several roads in the Rocky Ford area due to debris blocking floodwater drainage.
Screven County Fire Station 6 in Rocky Ford has reported 9.8 inches of rainfall in the past 24 hours.
Fire Station 12 along Harmony Road near the Burke County line has reported 7.8 inches.
The main EMA headquarters in Sylvania is reporting more than 7.5 inches of rainfall in the past 24 hours.
If you see a roadway flooded, please do not attempt to cross and contact Screven County 911 to report the roadway obstruction.
