Second suspect charged in southeast Roanoke shooting

The second of two suspects involved in Monday's shooting that injured a man in southeast Roanoke has been arrested, city police said Thursday.

Pataki Nathan Venable, 41, of Roanoke, is charged with one count of malicious wounding in connection with the gunfire incident, which occurred around 7:45 a.m. Monday near the intersection of 11th Street Southeast and Highland Avenue Southeast.

Police reported Monday that two suspects were in custody. They identified one as 55-year-old Jemal Breckenridge, of Staunton. He was arrested Monday and also charged with malicious wounding.

The second suspect, Venable, was receiving medical attention as of Monday evening, police reported, adding that he would be identified once his charges were processed.

Both men are being held at the Roanoke City Adult Detention Center, according to the facility's online inmate lookup system .

Breckenridge has a criminal record in Virginia that began in 2016 and includes assault and battery, grand larceny, abduction, strangulation, speeding, trespassing and contempt of court charges out of Augusta County, Staunton and Lynchburg, according to online court records . Venable's Virginia criminal record began in 2014 and includes assault and battery, protective order violation and public intoxication charges out of Roanoke and Montgomery County, according to those records.
