"Please seek alternate routes down I-40 West at the I-75/I-40 interchange," Bengel initially shared in an email about the incidents.

Bengel also said that the southbound lanes near mile marker 84 were shut down due to the rollover involving a semi-truck with the driver suffering minor injuries; then, a secondary non-injury wreck occurred involving a sedan and another semi-truck.

"This secondary wreck almost struck a deputy who was on foot and attempting to check on the injured driver of the first accident," Bengel stated. "Please slow down and move over!"

First responders from the Loudon County Sheriff's Office, Loudon County Fire/Rescue, and Priority Ambulance were currently on the scene as of 6:30 a.m.

"Please continue to use caution, slow down, and move over," Cpl. Bengel stated in an update.
